One of the most confusing things about her career is that after a hit like Friday, which was pretty much self-produced with her team, who clearly weren't necessarily industry people, so they sort of just laughed her off as a meme.

Meanwhile, so many less substantial acts have crawled out of the internet since her, and most haven't had songs as iconic as Friday, definitely less annoying than Friday, but not as viewed as Friday.

It seems like she's grown up and reclaiming what is hers, making her claim. Or maybe the industry has finally embraced the talent that she is.
